Susanna Hill Illustrator Contest!!!

I always enjoy Susanna Hill's contests, but I am by far the most excited for this particular contest!  You can read the rules for the contest here.

For my entry I chose to illustrate a cover for Lauri Meyer's story "The Princess and the Stinky Cheese." You can read the story here.  It's a hilarious retelling of the Princess and the Pea so if you have a minute you should totally go over and read it.

This is my official entry made with water colors and ink.

Originally I was going to enter this illustration using paper cut outs.

But then I decided to experiment with the exact same illustration using photoshop.

Yesterday at the very last minute I decided that I wanted to redo the illustration one last time, because I felt that it called for more action and facial expressions.  So I spilled my watercolors and sharpies out on the kitchen table and got to work.  I like each illustration for different reasons, but I think the watercolor version tells the story best.  I hope the judges agree!

Returning to an Old Piece

I did this painting a long time ago and was unhappy with it, but I really liked the drawing so I returned to it today using Photoshop.  It was so much fun to watch it transform.

Frosty Tern

My younger brother Michael saw a forster tern while he was on vacation in Outer Banks, NC.  He asked if I could make him a picture of a frosty tern (a magical bird he made up that turns everything to frost.)  I was happy to accept the challenge and here is the result.

Searching for Sole Mates!

I think socks are afraid of commitment because they keep abandoning their partners.  So I made a place for those poor dejected socks to bond and regroup. Hopefully someday they will pair up with some sock who matches and will stick with them for life.
